Terrible movers. Used Pickford's to move our belongings to New Zealand. Really bad customer service, lots of delays, surprise extra charges and breakages. The worst part, they lost some of our things during the move and managed to wriggle out of taking any responsibility so the insurance won't pay out. I don't know if other moving companies are any better, but I can't see how they could be much worse. Avoid.

Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness Pickfords moved me from Bristol England to Washington. They left two critical and valuable pieces of furniture behind at the warehouse when they loaded the container and since then despite multiple phone calls and emails, they have not been responsive. They do not return phone calls or messages.

I used Pickfords baggage for a large move to the other side of the planet. The process was brilliant, in fact it was flawless. I then recommended them to my father, who has organised a smaller shipment of a mere 3 items to the same destination - with Pickfords. I have never experienced such a poor service in all my life. I don't know if Pickfords baggage is the same company or not, or if they merely use the same core branding name.

It may explain some of the differences but for what was an easier shipment, 9 months apart, I am flabbergasted how a companies service and process can deteriorate so dramatically. If this review stops one single person from going through the pain and inconvenience I have just experienced then at least some good has come of the process. I imagine my shipment has more chance of getting to Mars than ending up on my doorstep.

No wonder they have been in business so long. To keep it brief, I contracted Pickfords to move me from Belfast to China and then to Japan. Dealing primarily with Tracey Neuville, she managed all my shipment and storage with expert efficiency over a period of nearly two years! I cannot praise her enough. Surprising after being in storage for so long and then being shipped by sea, there was very little damp and mildew and 95% of my belongings arrived just as I had packed them.

Any damages which did occur were likely caused at the Belfast end of the chain (so-so removers). If there is one complaint, then it would be their Japanese office which I found quite incompetent and certainly not up to the UK standard. That aside, in the end, all my problems with that end of the operation were dealt with professionally and expediently by London staff, and I would highly recommend you use this company.

A side note: I think some people imagine Pickfords are expensive so don't bother getting a quote. My experience has taught be that in fact, not only were they the cheapest initial quote, but the lack of damages and thefts means they actually worked out very inexpensive indeed.

In five previous international moves with other firms, we've never had an experience so poor as that delivered by Pickfords. The initial sales visit and survey were good. After that, the communication was spotty, the packing crew was rude, items arrived damaged and several items went missing. They even gave us the wrong deadline for filing an insurance claim. Worst international moving experience in 30 years of relocating around the world.

They sent our stuff to Africa instead of Canada. A five week shipment took over 3 months to arrive - I was 9 months pregnant at the time it arrived and it was the worst possible timing. Pickfords blames the sea company, Maersk, but pickfords were our only point of contact during this and their customer service was horrible throughout. In fact, they refused to acknowledge that the container had even been misrouted, even after Maersk told me it had.

Their negligence caused us a huge amount of a huge amount of financial, mental and emotional stress. Plus many other negatives: Hidden fees that didn't come up until we had given our deposit, not delivering on things they had promised (like they said the would sort parking when they picked up our stuff but didn't, I had to go door to door asking our neighbours to move their cars, ) some of our stuff was broken, insurance was a nightmare to deal with. But the worst was the horrible customer service which was vague and unhelpful at best and dangerously negligent at worst.

We used Pickfords to move our belongings from London to Los Angeles. The first of our issues was relatively minor; measurements, confirmed twice, for custom built crates were not followed. This was a small inconvenience, and was corrected at their depot. The bigger issue involves some records which I made clear to the company were of particular importance.

Some were sent in a flight case bought for the task. The records arrived but the flight case did not. I was told this was because the case was damaged to destruction in transit. However all other boxes arrived in good condition, as did the records, so I simply don't believe that one box was destroyed while the others arrived fine. The only conclusion is that the box was stolen by somebody handling our possessions.

The records arrived in a very thin cardboard box. Pickfords deny this completely and only offered to refund the cost of the case (and not a penny more) after I flagged this up, nothing was forthcoming, and no further offer of compensation was made. This level of contempt for customers is totally unacceptable and I would urge anyone making a similar move to investigate other companies than Pickfords.
