Note: Please be aware that I usually refrain from submitting online reviews (I find them too subjective on most occasions) but the overall customer experience with Matthew James Removals leaves me with no other choice but to warn potential clients of MJ. Background: We booked MJ's global relocation services (shared load incl. enhanced insurance package) for a standard move from London to Germany. Disclaimer: The collection and delivery teams were friendly, professional, diligent and hard working.

My review should not go to their disadvantage and it is a shame that MJ's corporate culture is negatively impacting such teams who get probably paid peanuts. DO NOT APPOINT MATTHEW JAMES REMOVALS! It is not a scam but not far away from it and here are my reasons why: Hidden costs (1): A few days after collocation and despite the (verbal) confirmation from the collection team that we were well within the agreed removal volume, MJ informed me that we have exceeded the volume and will have to pay extra according to their T&Cs.

How annoying! Hidden costs (2): The whole customs process took ages and started well before the collection date by when I submitted all required documents. After a long period of radio silence I was suddenly informed that additional documents are required and the lack of them will delay the move. I was able to submit the additional documents within a couple of hours and could have done it already weeks ago (i.e. it was nothing new).

This artificial delay resulted in additional storage costs outside the agreed T&Cs. How annoying! Lengthy process: It took them over 2.5 months to delivery our belongings (I know we booked a shared load service but the length of the delivery time is still excessive). How annoying! Damaged and lost goods: My bike (front wheel) was damaged and one of our boxes was lost during the move.

This can obviously happen, however, MJ refused to compensate me on very dubious grounds based on their T&Cs. MJ claims that my bike was pre-damaged and the delivery team pointed out the loss of the box. How annoying! Summary: DO NOT APPOINT MATTHEW JAMES REMOVALS! Their T&Cs make sure that you are completely at their will and have no chance but to pay, pay and wait, wait. HOW ANNOYING.

I will never use them again and can only warn other people to not book their services. PS: MJ has in the meantime offered me financial compensation (on the basis that I will not publish any negative reviews online) for my overall bad customer experience which I declined to accept as the offered amount was not deemed satisfactory from my point of view.

The offer speaks for itself, i.e. MJ knows that they have handled my removal very badly. PPS: I assume that MJ will immediately reply to this online review stating that they have acted 100% correctly and in accordance with their T&Cs. That's however the problem - their T&Cs are simply not fair and will result in additional (and well hidden) costs for clients.

Excellent service. Highly professional, great work ethic and super organised from start to finish. The quoting system was really good, clear and the team handled all our queries well. The customs team were really communicative and prompt and the collection team were really excellent. Max the manager was really communicative throughout and the whole team consisting of Bryn, Aaron, Lloyd and Marius were really professional, friendly and hard working. Great team and highly recommend.

Matthew James made our move from the UK to Spain very complicated in terms of required paperwork. We spent almost 5 months trying to get the paperwork right. Finally we decided to withdraw the contract with Matthew James and contract a Spanish company. The new company moved our stuff in 2 weeks hassle free. We lost time and money (admin and agent fees) with Matthew James.

After moving often, I have the pleasure to recommend Matthews. Their services are fantastic. It's a real peace of mind to moving with them, very professional, a complaisant crew working very hard and in time. I sincerely and deeply recommend them. Catherine

Matthew James were brilliant with our recent house move. The move had to be arranged at very short notice and Ersin was calm and accommodating when things kept changing last-minute. We opted for the full packing service and it was amazing to watch all our belongings being carefully packed up in just a few short hours. The team (Russell, Scott, Lloyd and Brandon) were friendly, polite and helpful, and took real care with all our possessions (including a piano).

It was the same experience when our stuff was delivered back to us at the new place a couple of days later - a friendly and efficient service from Lloyd (again!), Tony and Vinny. Moving was a stressful time for us and the fantastic service from MJR took some of that stress away. Highly recommended!

We recently used Matthew James to move a whole load of stuff from a storage unit in Bridgend to our new place in Valencia and it was so much easier than I anticipated. Not one thing was broken or dirty and we felt like they'd taken true care of all of our belongings which was so appreciated as a lot of it had sentimental value. We were seriously impressed with how lovely each and every one of the people who helped along the way was, and how well each person did their specific job, and linked up with each other so there was no repeating of giving information from our side.

There hasn't been one bit which I thought could have been done differently and that is truly rare. I can't remember the last time we had such high quality of service, especially when doing everything remotely and so complex. Would recommend without question.

I will not be recommending this company to anyone. They held my furniture to ransom, when ABC removal, whom they were working on behalf, failed to settle their account for 8 months. I was only informed on third delivery date what was happening. They told me that the van wasn't full and cancelled two previous dates. Matthew James made no attempt to deliver to my home in Portugal, as they said, they didn't know it wasn't easy access, so they took my furniture to Malaga, Spain.

I had to get another removal company to collect my furniture. There was many damaged/missing items to a value of 900. Your company was informed by myself on 2 occasions before delivery about the access to my home but, your agents failed to pass the information on as you felt that ABC was correct and I wasn't. It also very obvious that your company caused most of the damage as you had reboxed a third of the boxes.

Your company is a disgrace and by taking the contract from ABC, you also accept responsibility for the condition in which my furniture was delivered. I will never recommend you.

Absolutely delighted with the service. From the quote to the final delivery, the relevant teams were efficient and helpful. I'd been dreading packing up our family home of 34 years and relocating it to France, but they made it amazingly simple! Highly recommended.

We had a terrible experience with this company - we paid over 8000 for two moves one within the UK and one to France. The UK move was a nightmare - things were broken, fridge dinted in a number of places; basically to finish the job our stuff was thrown into our garage include our bed so we had to sleep on the floor. They even used our dryer (a brand new Miele) as storage for wallpaper and metal rods.

We took pictures and after the so-called investigation we were told (a) that we must have made up the pictures; (b) their would be no compensation and (c) we should be happy with the great job they did. We would never use them again nor recommend them to our friends. The arrogance in how they responded was breathtaking! The response below is totally false and inappropriate and it is just more of the same from Mathew James in our view.

It is interesting that you don't point at that the matter is going before the courts and they have not yet ruled on the case. It is a real shame that you make blatantly untrue statements (eg our dryer was only a few months old) when the case is still proceeding through the courts. The photos below speak for themselves.

Matthew James shipped our belongings from UK to Portugal and once the (brexit induced) paperwork was all sorted the company and staff were excellent. We were kept informed of progress, Katie and the crew (Lee and Christian) were friendly, helpful and took care while delivering. Would definitely reccomend them.

Matthew James responded very quickly to our enquiry and from their expert in person survey of our needs to the execution of the move they were impressive. Access at our new home is awkward and they had checked that out before visiting us for the survey. The lads on the vehicles were efficient, careful with our stuff and a pleasure to have around. I would unequivocally recommend them for a larger move.

We used Matthew James to move our offices in July 2021. Both our old office and our new office were on the 2nd floor with no lift. We were very pleased with the service we received from Matthew James. They were very careful with everything. Nothing was damaged and the staff were all helpful and polite. They provided packing materials beforehand and also bubble-wrapped all our computers and other fragile items for us on the morning of the move. They made a stressful day much easier!

From first dealings with the company they were responsive and professional. They collected my furniture and boxes from mid France, repacking some items into their boxes and took them to my family for storage in Hereford. Nothing was too much trouble and Adrien and his partner were superb, going the extra mile at the destination when their large van could not fit down the lane. Highly recommended! Yesterday we had the assistant of Fabian and Brandon from Matthew James Removals, and they were the best. If I had to describe their service, I would say: Incredibly professional, helpful and thorough, so if you need help with an international moving don't hesitate to hire them.

From start to finish excellent service! They definitely went the extra mile to deliver a top quality service. We moved from Paris to London and paid for a platinum service that included packing and unwrapping of furniture at destination, honestly the best investment we have made. Everything was wrapped and packed with special care, each and every single item arrived without any damage, which I did not expect from a Paris to London move including a 2-week long storage.

The crews were amazing, they arrived on time and they knew exactly what they were doing. Every single person we had contact with from Matthew James (the operations and payment staff, the moving crew) was extremely nice, professional and efficient! We could even call and arrange a collection of all the packing material (boxes, papers) after having finished unpacking.

We were super impressed by that! We cannot thank them enough for making our move so smooth and effortless! We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an international removal company.

We used Matthew James to transport my home from a Big Yellow Storage, in London, UK, to my new apartment in Madrid, Spain. They were consummate professionals, collecting, tagging and packing everything up in London and then delivering it 3 weeks later to our home in Madrid. All the time we were talking to Matthew James on the phone and there was great communication, always letting us know what was going on, where our belongings were all the way up until the moment of delivery.

Everything arrived in one piece, in great condition, as expected. Will definitely recommend Matthew James to anyone that needs a similar service and will go straight to them if we move again!
