When choosing a moving company to undertake the moving of your life's possessions it should not be something to be rushed into. Abels has always taken its responsibility of looking after our clients possessions seriously just as if they were our own and from the very beginning of the business in 1958 made the strategic decision to ensure we train and develop our staff, and to achieve the very highest of the industry recognised standards.
Our teams are trained to the highest of standards with years of experience and extensive knowledge of the moving industry. We run Moving Skills courses for all of our removal teams in our own in-house training centre. Abels full-time training instructors are also training other companies to improve their standards.
2.5m wide x 4m high. This is a reduced length removal truck that still offers a reasonable volume to move an average house. Mainly used on European trips as it allows the front to be detached from the rear allowing closer access to properties where it's too tight for a very large vehicle. This vehicle has a special drop body which enables us to store your possessions in the body of the truck in a compound for a short period.
Our office personnel and removal teams are trained to the highest of standards, with many having years of experience and extensive knowledge of the moving industry. Moving skills courses for the removal teams in our own 'in-house' training centre are a regular requirement for all our teams.

I recently used Abels for my move from the UK to Germany. Throughout and in every respect, the service provided has been superb! The customer support always -- not only until they received the money -- replied swiftly and did everything they could to be of help. The shipping of my belongings took a bit of time, but considering Brexit and the pandemic, was much quicker than expected; there were also no issues regarding paperwork.

The delivery itself went smoothly and the gentlemen driving the lorry were very friendly and a real pleasure to interact with, despite their having had to navigate a rather difficult and narrow road. All my belongings, some of which were fragile, arrived in perfect condition, with not even the boxes showing any significant signs of wear. Afterwards, Abels reached out to make sure that everything went well -- which it most certainly did!

Over the years I had numerous removals with different companies and VERY varied experiences. Abels have provided me with the most amazing service exceeding all my expectations. The whole team from office to collection and delivery teams have been really transparent, attentive, professional and courteous (what is much appreciated). The pricing was also very sensible but to be honest this was the least of our worries.

The goods were collected and delivered at the agreed time and they did not lose anything or cause any unexpected damage. I will certainly keep their details on file for future use and recommend them to anyone who does not want to chance a bad experience.

XI have recently moved back to France and chose Abels. I have been really pleased with the service they provided which was outstanding and went beyond my expectations. They were really professional, very transparent responding to all my questions, very prompt, very efficient, affordable and above all very friendly. Their customer care was excellent from the beginning to the end, which was a characteristic I was looking for.

They also were very attentive and comprehensive and reassuring as I was very stressed with the moving and the current situation. The whole team from office to collection and delivery team were amazing! All my items were delivered on time with lots of care. I know moving is a very stressful time but recommend highly Abels, their credentials don't disappoint at all but go beyond your expectations!

PLEASE DONT USE THIS COMPANY FOR INTERNATIONAL MOVINGS. I feel scammed. I had to pay 1500 pounds for basically nothing. I hired them to do my moving from UK to Spain. At the end, they put so many problems/obstacles that I had to hire a second moving company to pick up my furniture from ABEL warehouse in Suffolk and bringing them to Spain. In order to realease my furniture from their warehouse, I had to pay 1508 pounds. FOR NOTHING.

Outstanding. I moved back home from abroad and Abels delivered a faultless service. Helen in the office, and Ben and his team on the ground, were all skilled, organised, proactive and friendly. This is the fourth time we have used Abels to move house. As ever super efficient with very friendly staff both the moving team and office. Sensible price. Nothing is too much trouble and go out of their way to make sure the move is as stress free as it can be. First class service - if only all organisations were as good as this! They are a professional company who provided an excellent service at every level. James Pritchard was particularly helpful and reassuring at every stage of our move from Italy to the UK. Also of note were the collection and delivery teams who treated every item with care and respect. I cannot recommend Abels highly enough. For peace of mind in transporting your possessions, go no further than this firm.

I contracted to move my belongings from the USA to Britain. I contacted and contracted with Abel's moving, having read they were good. This is not so as I will now list why! Understandably they don't move in the USA so they contracted out to a US company, I don't know who it was. The company came with the truck on the May 3rd and loaded my belongings.

I had originally said I had about 200 cubic feet of items. I later did the maths and came up with 295 cubic feet. Several days later I was notified by Abel's that the US movers claimed I had 386 cubic feet and I now owed them another $2000. What was I to do, they had my items and I had to pay. I was told by Abel's that it would take up to 6 weeks to get my stuff delivered in England once it shipped.

I had to wait for a authorization number from UK Customs service for the items to be unloaded in the UK but that doesn't mean it couldn't have been shipped before that arrived. I was then let know by Abels that the US company was going to start charging me storage if I did provide the customs number. I have no control over UK customs so why get nasty?

I asked why the stuff hadn't shipped yet and they gave me some lame excuse. My belongings shipped in the 2nd week of June. Then in the first week of July I'm notified by Abel's that they were contacted by the US movers informing of an error on their part. My belongings had been shipped to Hawaii instead. After much complaining about this mistake, Abel's got the US company to cough up all of $400 US dollars.

It is now August and I'm living in the UK out of 2 suitcases. This money was to buy some clothes with, big whoop! What about some compensation for this massive error? Abel's did not go to bat for my cause and said I was lucky I got anything at all. When my load arrived in the UK at my place of storage, mind you this was in late September, I find that there were two custom built wooden crates with all my stuff in them.

Mind you the one crate was only 2/3 full. I did the measurements and calculated the volume they would have held and amazingly it came out to 386 cubic feet. My belongings only took up 295 cubic feet of that space, this included several boxes they had put in to fill up holes in the packing area. I complained to Abel's and they then tell me that USA carriers ship by overall weight and this was what the figures were actually based on. Hmmmm! seems no one informed me of this and when I complained, it didn't make any difference.

The one wooden box had most of the top ripped off and junk, i.e, wood bits and packing all over my load. I complained about this to no avail. All in all, Abel's doesn't even handle what is shipped, nor to they see it and above all, they don't care. They nor their foreign company representatives have no accountability and they can talk their way out of the mistakes they make like shoddy care salesman.

As has been my previous experience with supposed professional movers, I'd never use them again. If possible, I'd rent a boat and truck and do the moving myself (not that I could in this case). I can't reply to their comments so I'll edit mine. Yes, i did have my customs paperwork filled and Able's knew it. I had told them. UK Customs were the issue. I still say that they didn't fight for me in the slightest. All they wanted was my money!

I could not recommend Abels strongly enough, especially Jade, Diane, Jordan and Ricky (who kept having to unpack the puppy as he kept getting into the boxes!) They moved us from Suffolk to Spain at the same time as keeping me sane and delivering to us at exactly the time they said they would. 5 stars all round and a very big thank you!

Like most other reviewers, very poor experience with Abels/Sclusa. We moved from London to San Francisco back in 2014. We were told 6/8 weeks for delivery, it took almost FIVE MONTHS (May to September). We were not informed that we would have to pay an extra fee at the arrival to the port (over $100, if I remember correctly), which isn't the end of the world, but I generally prefer clear communication and properly set expectations. Lack of transparency and overall disappointing experience, avoid if you have other providers in the area.

Interesting that all the reviews on Yelp are one star! We paid a small fortune to have our furniture shipped from London to LA. Numerous delays and awful communication. We are currently arguing with them because they've lost most of our clothes! Extremely disappointing level of service.

In the middle of being "moved" by Abels. I so wish I'd seen these reviews before I went with them! So far, I've had a great sales rep, who was very efficient and seemed very helpful. Then the guys who came and did our packing were also very helpful, friendly, efficient. And now I'm stuck. My stuff is still in the UK and Abels can hold it to ransom, literally.

I have a "Customer Service Manager" although "Customer Service" seems to be a foreign language to her. She has phoned me once - to get money paid - and emailed me a couple of times. All other contact has been at my initiative. I've had to chase her to get an additional quote when it was needed, to find out dates, basically to get any information at all.

She doesn't seem to do anything at all unless I hassle her. As if moving to a foreign country with two small children weren't stressful enough. I've gone from the sales stage - "we have the royal accreditation and we frequently ship to Scandinavia, it's all very routine" to the actual moving stage - "Finland is actually very remote, very unusual destination. Our associates will contact you once your stuff gets to Helsinki."

NEVER use this company. I wish I could give them minus stars. My shipment to the US arrived smashed and they could not have been less helpful. their insurance is a con - despite the furniture being smashed on their time we're now 5 months down and I haven't seen a penny in compensation and the company refuses to help. it's fraud to take someone's money for insurance and then not bind it in. some of the packing of the items was dreadful and damage has been done to items that simply aren't replaceable. these guys are expensive and take no responsibility when things go wrong. terrible customer service Avoid these people at all costs if you want to save yourself heartache.

We did an international move with Abels at the end of 2008. After the UK side of the move I emailed the International Manager with a number of complaints. I received from him the most breathtakingly peurile responses in a series of emails, which even revealed one of the crew to have quite an imagination when it came to relating events. Quite offensive communications.

I believe this Manager still holds the same position. He did not apologise, either for the issues about which I originally complained, nor for the totally inept way in which my complaint was handled. Very, very disappointing. Simply not worth the premium.

Not great. We got Abels to manage our move from the UK to USA (California bay area) and we were less than satisfied with the service. (1) Long Delivery: We got a part-load service, meaning that we had to wait for a full container before our shipment left. We were told that for our case, this would be typically 6-8 weeks. It took 14 weeks in the end. (2) Non-transparent pricing.

When asked, they told us that the cost was pro-rated based on the volume of our shipment. We were quoted for 40 cubic feet, but in the end we only used 37 cu ft. However, we had to pay the quoted price because it's the same price between 30-40 cu ft. I don't understand why this is because we were on the part-load service and they were filling up the entire container anyway. (3) Wrong port.

We were told that our shipment would go to port A but instead it went to a port 350+ miles away. We were told at the start that if our destination was more than 30 or 60 miles away from the port, we would incur extra charges. This meant not only further delay in our shipment, but us having to pay extra $95. It was all a tad more stressful than I liked. So I would definitely go with a different company next time.
